A FREDERICK DOUGLASS AMBROTYPE PORTRAIT, circa 1870s, quarter plate (4.25 x 3.25 inches). Collodion wet plate ambrotype of the abolitionist Frederick Douglass, possibly taken in 1872 when he was the Equal Rights Party Nominee for the Vice President of the United States. The apparently unpublished beardless portrait of Douglass contained in a period folding leather case with tooled gilt oval mat. Exhibited: The African American Heritage Museum of Iowa, 2006; The Gerald Ford Presidential Library, 2007; and the William Jefferson Clinton Presidential Library, 2008.
