IVAN NIKOLAEVICH PAVLOV (RUSSIAN 1872-1951).  A folio with four color linocuts from the series УХОДЯЩАЯ РУСЬ – Vanishing Russia, Moscow 1914, published by U.I. Lepkov and printed by I.M. Mashistov. Comprising four color linocuts, each mounted on a large sheet and depicting various scenes of old Russia with corresponding printed titles generically labeled Corners of Moscow, and including, Novodevichy Monastery Moscow, 9 inches x 12.6 inches (23 x 32 cm), A Northern Scene, 8.75 inches x 12.5 inches (22 x 32 cm), Entrance into the Church of the Intercession at Fili, 8.2 inches x 11.5 inches (21 x 29 cm) and The Church of St. Nicholas in Golutvin, 7.3 inches x 8.25 inches (18.5 x 21 cm). With the original folio itself measuring 20.5 inches x 15 inches (52 x 38 cm).

It is a pleasant irony that of all the many churches destroyed during the dark period of the Soviet rule; those depicted here by Pavlov under the title of “Vanishing Russia” did not themselves vanish but rather are still all standing today and furthermore thrive as active functioning parishes.
