A RUSSIAN ICON OF SAINT JOHN THE THEOLOGIAN, CIRCA 1800. Here the Holy Spirit depicted as a small angel whispers divine inspiration into John's ear as he contemplates writing his gospel. The opening verses which are inscribed on the book he holds below "In the beginning was the word, and the word was with God, and the word was God." 12 inches x 10.75 inches (30.5 x 27.1 cm).
