A FINE RUSSIAN ICON OF SAINT SERAPHIM OF SAROV, CIRCA 1903. Here Seraphim is seen kneeling in prayer within a forest clearing upon a rock. He wears a cast bronze crucifix around his neck, holds a lestovka and blesses himself before his beloved icon of the Mother of God (His Joy of Joys) which hangs in the tree above him. At his feet a hat, bread sack, gloves and axe. The borders ornately incised and painted to simulate enamel. The inscription above his head identifies him as The Holy Venerable Seraphim Praying on His Stone. 8.75 inches x 7 inches (22.2 x 18 cm).
