AN EXCEPTIONAL LOUIS XVI STYLE CABINET AFTER GEORGE HAUPT, LAST HALF 19TH CENTURY.  Modeled after the original “Mineralogical Cabinet” by the 18th century Swedish cabinet maker George Haupt which was given by Gustave III of Sweden to Prince de Conde in 1774 for use as a minerals and gemstone cabinet. The mahogany and gilt bronze mounted case with marquetry inlaid kingwood and satinwood with two large doors and interior with adjustable shelves below a gilt bronze Swedish coat of arms and an engraved inscription plaque “Museum mineralogique sonne en 1774 par Gustave III Roi de Suede a Louis Joseph de Bourbon Prince de Conde” and raised on a marquetry and gilt bronze mounted stand with two elongated doors.  Height 84.5 inches (215 cm), width 72 inches (173 cm), depth 29.5 inches (75 cm).

The original Mineralogical cabinet by George Haupt can be found in the reconstructed  Chateau de Chantilly, being one of the few pieces recovered after the 1793 Paris auction held by the Revolutionary administration of the entire contents of the Chateau de Chantilly.
