A LARGE AND IMPRESSIVE CHINESE CARVED SOAPSTONE CENTERPIECE. Carved in two sections, the upper depicting three large Foo lions with 16 young, surmounting a pierced and hollowed diaper pattern sphere in celadon and amber colored soapstone. Raised on a carved brownish soapstone base with multi-colored highlights. Partial loss to sphere. Overall height 27.5 inches (70 cm).
