A RUSSIAN ICON OF THE CRUCIFIXION, 19TH CENTURY. At center, the crucified Christ flanked by the two Marys on the left, the Apostle John and the Roman Centurion Longinus on the right. Further out still, two additional saints on each side. The upper left corner with an image of the Mother of God, Joy to All Who Sorrow, in the upper right corner, an image of St. Nicholas, in the lower right, the Mother of God with the Red Face, and at lower left St. John the Warrior, the borders with St. Cyprian and Justina. A large and colorful, albeit slightly provincial icon. 17.5 inches x 14.5 inches (44.5 x 35.5 cm).
