A LARGE AND IMPRESSIVE RUSSIAN IMPERIAL PORCELAIN FACTORY JARDINIÈRE AND STAND, ST. PETERSBURG, PERIOD OF ALEXANDER II. Of compressed bulbous form, the sides with two extending acanthus gilt highlighted handles, the front and back with ornate acanthus cartouches molded in high relief and each with hand painted scenes of birds amidst fruit trees, the base with raised strapwork and below the sides with hand painted butterflies on a pink ground with gilt highlights. The deep circular base stand with green underglaze mark of Alexander II beneath the Imperial Crown. Overall height 11.25 inches (29 cm) greatest width 16 inches (41 cm).
