AN INTERESTING RUSSIAN IMPERIAL PERIOD HAND PAINTED PORCELAIN NAVAL PLATE, CIRCA 1875. The sunken cavetto with a hand painted portrait of the Imperial armored cruiser, General Admiral within a cobalt blue border decorated with gilt nautical motifs and at top in Russian, emblazoned GENERAL ADMIRAL. Verso with indistinguishable impressed mark, possibly the Imperial Porcelain Factory. Diameter 9.6 inches (24.2 cm).

The General Admiral was the lead ship of the General Admiral class armored cruisers built for the Imperial Russian Navy in the early 1870's. She is generally considered as the first true armored cruiser. It was the flagship of Grand Duke Alexei Alexandrovich.
