A PAIR OF RUSSIAN PORCELAIN PLATES, 19TH CENTURY. The first, circa 1850, with sunken cavetto displaying a hand painted scene depicting a young girl in local costume with basket of berries and ring of bubliki. The border banded with gilt scrolling foliage and the rim with gilt band and beaded pattern. The verso inscribed in French "Fille de Waldai" (Girl from Valday). Diameter 9.25 inches (23.5 cm). The second depicting a man on skis in a winter wooded landscape, and the border depicting a woman wrapping yarn on a distaff near a window inside an izba. The rim banded in gold, the verso with Kornilov Bros. mark beneath the Imperial Warrant and the number 28. Diameter 9.5 inches (24.2 cm).
