A RUSSIAN SILVER CIGARETTE CASE AND PURSE, MOSCOW, 1908-1917. Comprising a rectangular cigarette case, the hinged lid decorated with an allegorical figure amongst an owl, skull, incense burner, stack of books and with serpent wrapped around her arm (possibly Minerva?). The lower margin with sunken cartouche inscribed with indecipherable letters. With ruby cabochon thumbpiece opening to reveal a gilt interior. Hallmarked Moscow 1908-1917, Cyrillic maker's mark GR and 84 silver standard. Length 4.5 inches (11.5 cm). Together with a silver rectangular shaped purse with rounded corners and silver chain linked strap, the cover decorated with racing horses, the purple cabochon thumbpiece a silk lined accordion pocket interior. Hallmarked Moscow 1908-1917, maker's mark 2A- 2nd Artel, and 84 silver standard. Length 6.5 inches (16.5 cm).
