AN IMPRESSIVE CARVED PRESS MOLDED AND GILT WOOD TABERNACLE FRAME, 18TH CENTURY. The base with carved acanthus scrolls with ribbon tied shield displaying a pattern of fleur-de-lis, beneath a horizontal panel with raised gilt decorated swags, urns and ribbons, beneath the central exposition area set with a later polychrome terracotta relief plaque of the Madonna and Child. The sides flanked with columns modeled with classical forms beneath ornate capitals, the upper panel with relief sculpted winged griffins and winged cherub heads beneath an overhanging carved element beneath an arched finial top with carved florals and at center, a six winged Seraphim within a ribbon tied wreath. Height 43.75 inches (111 cm), width 20 inches (51 cm).
