A VERY FINE CARVED IVORY CORPUS, FRANCO-FLEMISH, 19TH CENTURY.  Exquisitely carved in full round with flowing hair, pierced crown of thorns, good anatomy and excellent detail throughout including veining. Finely carved rope draped perizonium with deep folds and carved with open mouth and droplets of blood flowing from the side, hands, and feet of Christ. Mounted on a rosewood cross with beveled sides and with inset gilt brass borders. At top an inscribed ivory plaque inscribed with the letters INRI – for Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews. Corpus height 8 inches (20.3 cm), overall height including cross 15.75 inches (40 cm).
