AN INTERESTING DATED RUSSIAN ICON OF SAINTS STEPHEN AND JULIANA, MOSCOW, 1817. At top center, a finely painted image of Christ blessing with both hands amidst the heavens, rendered as billowing clouds, and below at left, a full length image of St. Stephen and on the right, Juliana. Both saints identified with Greek inscriptions, "The Holy Arch Deacon and Protomartyr Stephen" and "The Holy Martyr Juliana." The figure of Christ also identified with Greek abbreviated inscription. The lower margin inscribed in Cyrillic "Moscow, 1817, November 8." The figures of both saints finely painted and with delicate gilt highlights simulating ornate bullion embroidery. 12.25 inches x 10.25 inches (31 x 26 cm).
