A SCARCE RUSSIAN ICON OF THE HOLY GOOD BELIEVING PRINCE THEODORE OF SMOLENSK, CIRCA 1890. At center, a full length realistically rendered image of Theodore who wears the Skema and holds a scroll inscribed with a prayer. The gilded background ornately incised with a floral pattern and the borders intricately decorated in faux cloisonné enamel. The lower margin with cartouche exhibiting an abbreviated inscription identifying him as The Holy Venerable Prince Theodore of Smolensk. In an excellent state of original preservation, even retaining the original unmolested varnish coat. 14 inches x 12.25 inches (35.5 x 31 cm).
