A FINE RUSSIAN ICON OF SAINT SERGEI OF RADONEZH, IVAN MALYSHEV WORKSHOP, CIRCA 1890. Finely painted, the half length image of Saint Sergei with fine gilt highlighting and shading, a hallmark of the Malyshev icon workshop and executed on an intricately incised checkered background, the borders finely incised in strapwork. The saint's name rendered in the upper margin within a cartouche, "The Holy Venerable Sergei, Miracle Worker of Radonezh." Verso with workshop stamp of I.M. Malyshev, Trinity Sergei Lavra. 5.4 inches x 4.1 inches (13.5 x 10.5 cm).
