THE STORY OF NELL GWYN AND THE SAYINGS OF CHARLES II, BY PETER CUNNINGHAM, LONDON, 1852. Extra-illustrated with numerous letters and documents. Including an engraved portrait of Eleanor Gwynn by Green, dated 1777; an original warrant relative to the annuity to be paid for the support of Eleanor Gwynn and her son the Earl of Burford, signed by Hyde, Earl of Rochester, Lord Godolphin and Sir Robert Howard "the famous dramatist"; two engravings after P. Lely, one dated 1802; an R. Cooper engraving after Peter Lely, dated 1826; a Charles II signed document respecting the Duke of Monmouth and countersigned by Laurence Hyde, Sir Stephan Fox and others; a large engraved portait of Charles II; an early printed portrait of Charles II on vellum; numerous other early portraits relating to the story including Oliver Cromwell, Thomas Otway, Samuel Johnson and Prince James; and various book plates. Contained in an early 20th century gilt and leather binding with engraved library card of Sir F. Anstruther Gough Calthorpe Baronet. 15 inches x 11.5 inches (38 x 29 cm).
