A COLLECTION OF ORIGINAL BOTANICAL WATERCOLORS ON PAPER, CIRCA 1800, POSSIBLY ANGLO-INDIAN SCHOOL. Comprising 73 hand painted watercolor studies of various species of wildflowers, the majority native to Africa and the India subcontinent, each painting tipped in, (three on "J. Whatman 1801" watermarked paper, and four on "Ruse and Turner 1805" watermarked paper, two with partial "J. Whatman" watermarks and the remainder apparently unmarked), and each facing a separate letterset and printed "Tabula" (table) describing the scientific name of each flower, the various classifications and references to other botanical books of the period. One volume with "Tabula" numbered 526-575 with 37 paintings, the other with 37 paintings. Together with two loose paintings removed for display. Each volume bound with faux tortoise shell paper, covered paste boards and devoid of any cover sheets or publishing information. Possibly for William Roxburgh, Calcutta, India. Each 20.75 inches x 17 inches (52.5 x 43.5 cm).
