Felix Baumhauer was born in the North-Rhine Westphalian town of Ludinghausen on March 30, 1876. He studied art both in Frankfurt and Munich - where he eventually settled and opened a studio. He is known primarily for his work in ecclesiastical design working in a multitude of mediums such as murals, frescos, mosaics and stained glass. Baumhauer designed the main altar, Stations of the Cross, and windows for numerous churches throughout Germany as well as contributed to church designs abroad - most notably, the Cathedral Basilica of Saint Louis (mosaics) Saint Louis, Missouri 1926.  He continued working up until about 1958 and died two years later at age 84 in the year 1960.
