On 14 May, 1896, Nicholas Romanov’s formal coronation as Tsar was held in Uspensky Cathedral located within the Kremlin, in Moscow. In the months leading up to the coronation, all of Russia was caught up in a wide sweeping coronation fervor. As was the custom, to show their loyalty and support to the new Tsar, manufacturers throughout the Kingdom produced goods of every imaginable type specifically as gifts for the Royals as well as Coronation themed items to be sold to the general public or as in the case of the offered lot, the aristocracy. The offered lot is an excellent and rare surviving example of a unique coronation themed product, manufactured in what was, at the time, the textile center of Russia.
