Small icons such as offered in the preceding three lots are typical of those which were commonly acquired by pilgrims as personal devotional icons and because of their small size, were easily transported while traveling. Now, once again, as in times of old, in the back of most every Russian Orthodox Church today, one will find a counter where pilgrims can purchase icons as a memento of their visit, and so as to develop their spirituality through the intercession of the person depicted on the icon, often the name saint of the church visited.
