A VERY FINE CHINESE CARVED WHITE JADE BIANFANG (HAIR PIN), QING DYNASTY/EARLY REPUBLIC. In even toned semi- translucent white jade, finely carved and pierced with a design of bats, peaches and "Sauvastika" (fourth auspicious sign of Buddha) in three reserves extending from a scrolled terminal with rosette ends, later mounted in a circa 1940 leather covered and gilt tooled picture frame containing a period black and white silver gelatin print of two lovers in silhouette, the verso inscribed "Crawford (Joan) & Tracey (Spencer)". The jade length 11 inches (28 cm) and 16.5 inches x 13.5 inches overall (42 cm x 34 cm).
