A VERY FINE CHINESE "DRAGON" IMPERIAL TOMB FUNERARY VASE, SONG DYNASTY, KIANGSI REGION.Of bottle form with an applied sculpted dragon encircling the neck above an appiled scalloped ribbon shoulder under a pale whitish celedon glaze with bluish green highlights, The base with an applied "Oriental Ceramic Socy. 1949 Exhibition" oval paper label numbered "88" and a "Cunliffe" label numbered "PT24". Height 11.125 inches (28 cm).

Oriental Ceramic Society 1949-1950, item #88 and described in the "Transactions of the Oriental Ceramic Society" exhibition catalog as folows: "88.  Funerary Vase with 'pie crust decoration' on the shoulder and a coiling dragon modelled in high relief around the neck. Ying ch'ing ware. Excavated in the Kiang-si from an Imperial tomb of the Five Dynasties period, Height 11 1/8  "Lord Cunliffe".
Lord Cunliffe, the 2nd Baron Cunliff (English 1889-1963), was an avid collector and discerning connoisseur of early Chinese Arts, specializing in ancient bronzes, jades and ceramics.  A long-time Board Member of the Oriental Ceramic Society, Lord Cunliffe assembled one of the finest collections of Oriental fine art in Great Britain.
