Lot 178
A RUSSIAN ICON OF SAINT GEORGE THE VICTORIOUS, CIRCA 1600. No doubt this is likely an icon from the deisis tier (left side) of an iconostasis. Here the great martyr George is depicted full length and turned inward towards Christ in an attitude of prayer. On the mid left border and upper right border are remnants of later over paintings (two) with one retaining the gilt inscription identifying the figure as GEORGIY POBYEDONOSETS (George the Victorious). 41.75 inches x 13 inches (106 x 33 cm).
Estimate:  $3,000 - 5,000   € 2,310 - 3,850
