A VERY FINE RUSSIAN ICON IN FOUR PARTS, CIRCA 1850. Finely painted with an image of the crucified Christ at center set amidst four equally divided sections each depicting a different image. Clockwise from upper left they are: The Pokrov Mother of God, Saint George Slaying the Dragon, The Holy Apostle Andrew with The Holy Martyr John the Warrior, and The Holy Nicholas Wonderworker. The borders painted with family saints; The Holy Bishop Vasily, The Holy Apostle Aquila, the Venerable George, and the Guardian Angel. Overlaid with a finely crafted silver repousse and chased riza with attached haloes. The upper edge engraved with abbreviated silver measurement, Vesu 135 ½ Zol. In an excellent state of original preservation. 14 inches x 12 inches (35.5 x 30.5 cm).
