A LARGE AND IMPRESSIVE ICON OF THE ENTRANCE OF THE MOTHER OF GOD INTO THE TEMPLE, PALEKH SCHOOL, 19TH CENTURY. Here the three-year old Mary, accompanied by her parents Jokhim and Anna, are presented to the temple priest Zakhrias, father of St. John the Forerunner. To left in the background a gathering of candle carrying virgins. At top right the future scene of the Annunciation is depicted. The left border painted with St. Nicholas and the right border with St. Katherine. 28 inches x 22 inches (71 x 56 cm).
