A RUSSIAN ICON OF THE SEEKING OF THE LOST MOTHER OF GOD, CIRCA 1890. The title of this icon is attributed to the rescue from damnation of a monk in Asia Minor by the prototype image. This more "modern" style became quite popular with the unveiling of the icons painted by Mikhail Nesterov and Victor Vasnetsov for the famous Vladimir Cathedral in Kiev which were completed in 1896. 12 inches x 10.5 inches (31 x 26.7 cm).
