A LARGE AND IMPRESSIVE CARVED, POLYCHROME AND GILT WOOD GOTHIC STYLE RETABLE, 19TH CENTURY, PROBABLY GERMAN. Carved in high relief depicting the high priest Melchizedek bringing bread and wine to Abram depicted as a kneeling knight in armor with his squire holding a shield and lance behind him and in the distance a Gothic style castle on a hill. The gilt background with stylized fleur de lis and the top section framed behind a lattice work of Gothic arches and spires. Overall contained in a large Gothic arch form frame. Height 46.5 inches (118 cm), width 33 inches (83.75 cm), depth 6.7 inches (17 cm).
