AN INTERESTING RUSSIAN RELIQUARY ICON TRIPTYCH, 18TH CENTURY.  The hinged metal frame directly painted on the interior. The left wing painted and inscribed in Cyrillic with titles for the warrior Martyr Saint George, and on the right wing the Holy Fool for God, Alexis. The central panel set with a raised metal cross with hinged lid opening to reveal presumably a botanical relic, perhaps from a holy site. To the side of the cross are painted the Virgin Mary (left) and the Apostle St. John (right). Above them winged cherubs. The wings folding one over the other to produce a single square. The end cap engraved in Latin IHS beneath a cross and above the implements of the passion - three spikes. The central panel set with suspension chain on top.  2.25 inches x 6 inches (open), (5.7 x 15.2cm).
