A COLLECTION OF RUSSIAN FAMILY ICONS, 18TH - 19TH CENTURY. The wood panel set with ten cast bronze icons dated from circa 1700 to 1850, comprising an icon of The Mother of God Joy to All Who Sorrow, St. Nicholas, St. John the Theologian, two images of the Kazan Mother of God, two pectoral crosses (circa 1750), a triptych of the Deisis (circa 1700), and two icons of selected saints. Icons such as the offered lot are thought to represent receptacles for various icons passed down upon the death of a family member and then displayed together in the icon corner, so as to recall their ancestors during prayer. Smallest 2.25 inches x 1.5 inches (5.7 cm x 3.7 cm) to largest 6.5 inches x 4 inches (16.5 cm x 10.2 cm). Frame size 13.75 inches x 11.75 inches (34.5 x 30 cm).
