A RUSSIAN ICON OF ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST, 18TH CENTURY. A finely painted icon John holds a diskos containing the infant Christ, symbolic of the Eucharistic bread and holds a scroll which begins "Behold the Lamb of God Who Takes Away the Sins of the World". Overlaid with an ornate, silver, repousse riza and brilliant silver gilt halo. Hallmarked St. Petersburg, dated 1845, Cyrillic maker's mark IF and with 84 silver standard. 12.25 inches x 10.5 inches (31 x 26.6 cm).
