A LARGE AND VERY FINE CARVED IVORY FIGURE OF THE MAGDALENE, GERMAN, PROBABLY 18TH CENTURY. Carved in full round, of stylized anatomy and proportions. The figure slightly bent, hands held in prayer, resting on a rocky intregal base and with cascading hair exhibiting traces of polychrome and gilt. Height 8.25 inches (21 cm).

The offered lot follows closely the carving of the same subject by the 16th century German sculpter Gregor Erhart, currently housed in the Louvre, Paris.
