A VERY FINE FRENCH CARVED IVORY PENTAPTYCH, EARLY 19TH CENTURY, PERHAPS EARLIER. Very finely carved in good relief depicting the "Field of Cloth of Gold" with Henry VIII and Francis I meeting near Calais surrounded by opposing military figures with scenes of encampment, castle and ships in background. Each contained in four panels with carved Gothic styles scrolled strapwork terminals. The central panel with each monarch's coat of arms. Good remnants of polychrome highlighting throughout. Height 5.75 inches (14.5 cm), length 10 inches (25 cm) open, 3.375 inches (8.5 cm) closed.
