A LARGE AND IMPRESSIVE RUSSIAN ICON DIESIS GROUPING, CIRCA 1850. A matching set all painted by the same hand, at center, Christ as the Lord Almighty delivering a blessing and holding an open book of gospels to Matthew 11:28. On the left, the Mother of God turned toward her son in an attitude of prayer holding a scroll inscribed with a prayer, and on the right, John the Forerunner holding a diskos containing the body of the infant Christ which he points at, and with his other hand holding a scroll also inscribed with a prayer. Each icon overlaid with matching substantial repoussé and chased silvered rizas with applied halo. 20.75 inches x 17.6 inches (52.7 x 44.3 cm) each.
