A RUSSIAN ICON OF THE TIKHVIN MOTHER OF GOD, CIRCA 1890. A finely painted example of this patroness of families, Christ delivers a blessing as his mother directs the viewers to her son, the source of salvation. The gilt background decoratively incised and the boarders intricately painted to simulate cloisonné enameling. The lower margin with rectangular cartouche inscribed with the title for this icon. 14 x 12.25 inches (35.7 x 31 cm).
