A PORCELAIN CHARKA FROM THE SERVICE OF GRAND DUKE KONSTANTIN NIKOLAEVICH, IMPERIAL PORCELAIN FACTORY. ST. PETERSBURG, PERIOD OF NICHOLAS I.  The porcelain cup on spreading circular foot with slightly flared rim and attached flat handle. The body decorated with gilt, green, red and black strapwork, the sides with cartouches displaying the Imperial double headed eagle and the front with cartouche displaying the monogram of Grand Duke Konstatin Nikolaevich, the interior partially gilded. Underside with underglaze blue factory mark and incised with the number 5. Height 2 inches (5 cm).

This particular service was based on a design by Feodor Solntsev (1801 -1892), the designer of the Kremlin Service. This service was ordered in 1848 for the marriage of Grand Duke Konstantin Nikolaevich to Alexandra Iosifovna, Princess of Saxe-Altenburg and produced from 1848 to 1852.
