The offered lot is modeled after a figure designed by the preeminent sculpture Stepan Stepanovich Pimenov (1784-1833). From 1814-1829 he headed the sculpture department at the Imperial Porcelain Factory both designing as well as overseeing designs for use in the production of vases, dishes and figurines such as the offered lot. However, to natives of St. Petersburg he is well known through his many works which grace the city, including the arch of the General Headquarters, the figures of Glory and Old Warrior on the Narva Triumphal Gate, as well as many others.
