A MONTENEGRO CARNELIAN MOUNTED LEATHER JAKICAR (BELT), SERBIA, 18TH/19TH CENTURY. Comprising three layers of stitched hide mounted with three rows of carnelian polished cabochons each contained in a silver gilt bezel with extending granular beading. Worn in the 18th/19th centuries, mostly in Montenegro and neighboring areas of Serbia and Herzegovina. They are believed to be derived from the Illyrian culture. Buckle and fastening straps absent. Width 4.25 inches (11 cm), overall diameter 10.5 inches (26.5 cm).
