*Please note, the term “after” preceding an artist’s name means that in our best judgment, the offered lot is a copy of a known work by the listed artist. The term “after” in this case is a universally utilized term in the international auction industry to convey such an opinion.
Because a work is a copy, even if it is of the period of the artist listed, the person who painted it, generally speaking, is irrelevant unless they are of similar and like status of the listed artist. It is possible that this painting is signed “V. Favr”, most likely meaning Vladimir Georgievich Favr (Russian 1852-1923). This would seem to make sense as this painting comes from the estate of Dr. Franz Julius Rose, who was, according to lot 68, acquainted with the artist (Favr).
