AN EMANUEL SPRACHTA SCENIC ENGRAVED CRYSTAL TRAY, CZECH, CIRCA 1945.  Of oval from with fluted border and the cavetto with deeply engraved bucolic scene of a peasant family. Signed "Sprachta" lower right. Length 13 inches (33 cm).

The offered lot was acquired by U.S. Ambassador Laurence Adolf Steinhardt while serving as Ambassador the USSR (1939-1941).

Emanuel Sprachta (1894-1953), was a student of professor Josef Drahonovský at the Arts and Crafts School in Prague. Beginning in 1928 he opened his own art glass studio specializing in engraved works. In 1937 Sprachta was awarded the grand prize for engraved glass at the Paris Exposition. He is known for his exceptional craftsmanship in the area of finely and deeply engraved glass objects such as the offered lot.
