A RUSSIAN ICON OF THE VLADIMIR MOTHER OF GOD, 17TH/18TH CENTURY. The painted panel with double Kovcheg and executed in the traditional Old style, the figures overlaid with a seed pearl riza backed in tin foil and the entire image overlaid with a silver-gilt and repousse baroque style riza hallmarked Moscow, dated 1767 and Cyrillic maker’s mark AV. Some losses and lifting to paint layer, excessively on borders. Verso with original Soviet period (circa 1935) MOSGOSTORG label (as illustrated). 12.5 inches x 10.75 inches (32 x 27 cm).
