190 Circle of MAXFIELD PARRISH (American 1870-1966) "Robin Hood and His Merry Men" - a mural, Oil on canvas, Possibly initialed lower right with camouflaged "MP". 32" x 168" (unframed). Estimate $7,000-$10,000 Provenance: Private collection, Davenport, Iowa The Robin Hood Flour Mill, located in Davenport, Iowa was built in 1906 and was known for its beardless Robin Hood logo, which all of its products possessed. It is possible that this mural hung in the Robin Hood Flour Mill's corporate office. The consignor believes the mural was salvaged from a fire, which destroyed the building in 1974.There are certainly stylistic similarities in the offered lot to early works by Parrish. Regardless of who the author of this mural is, the connection to the Brandywine School (the school in which Parrish attended) would seem undeniable.
