AN AMICE HOTTON ISLAND OF JERSEY SIDEBOARD, CARVED OAK circa 1871, with 16th
century elements. Probably produced for the Channel Islands Exhibition of
July 1871, the ornately allover carved backsplash with winged cherub crest
above 3 earlier carved 16th century French panels of the Goddess Diana
between figural carved matching pilasters. The oak top with cradle board
reinforcement, signed in pencil "A. Hotton, 16 Hill Street, Jersey". Amice
Hotton (1810-1898) was a cabinet maker producing domestic furniture at his
shop on the Island of Jersey. The offered lot was probably produced as an
effort to display and salvage the earlier 16th century carved elements.
