AN  RUSSIAN GILT-BRONZE FIGURE OF PETER THE GREAT, 18th or 19th century. The large and imposing figure of Czar Peter wearing sword and emblazoned with orders, he supports a large Orthodox style cross upon which is engraved in Cyrillic - Crowned by the Devout Blood of the Pious Warriors of the year since the Incarnation of God 1709, the 27th day of June. Apparently a commemorative relating to the famous and decisive Russian victory at the Battle of Poltava, June 27, 1709, which pitted the armies of Peter the Great against Charles XII of Sweden. Unmarked.  Height 19.4 inches (49.3 cm). Estimate $5,000-$7,000
