RUSSIAN SILVER-GILT AND ENAMEL ICON OF ST. GEORGE Pavel Ovchinnikov, Moscow. The figure of George rendered in shaded enamel with blue and green halo. The vertical abbreviated enameled inscription identifies him as: "The Holy Great Martyr George the Victorious". The borders with raised filigree of scrolling foliage and rope edging. The hinged finial with the Holy Napkin (pierced for suspension) and the verso inscribed in Cyrillic "Save and preserve". Marked with Cyrillic initials "*.O." for Pavel Ovchinnikov, assay mark of Moscow circa 1899-1908 and assay master Ivan Lebedkin. Height 3 inches (7.6 cm).
