A RUSSIAN ICON: The Lord Almighty, circa 1900. The entire image overlaid with an ornate and heavy silver-gilt repousse and engraved riza with exquisite shaded and cloisonne enamel halo. Christ delivers a blessing and holds an open book of Gospels with enameled text of John 13:34 "A new commandment I give unto you, that ye also love one another..." Hallmarked Moscow, circa 1899-1908 and with Cyrillic maker's mark of noted silversmith Ivan Tarabrov, active in Moscow 1893-1916. AN OLD BELIEVERS RUSSIAN ICON of the Kazan Mother of God with the Guardian Angel and Saints, circa 1650-1800. The present painted panel dates to circa 1780, and probably was commissioned as a receptacle for the earlier (circa 1650) icon of the Kazan Mother of God which has been inset at top center. The saints are most likely family saints and include St. Peligia, St. Moses the Moor, St. Julian, St. Alexander Nevskiy, St. Barsonophius, St. Guriy, St. Taisia, St. John the Much Suffering, St. Dimitriy, St. Antoni, and St. Feodosiy. The entire image is overlaid with an elaborately engraved silver-gilt riza with shaded enamel haloes, hallmarked Moscow circa 1899-1908 and with Cyrillic maker's mark of Igor Chepyatov. 14.25 inches x 12.25 inches (36.2 cm x 31 cm).
