A VERY FINE RUSSIAN ICON FOLDING ICONOSTASIS first half of the 19th century, in or near Palekh. The central panel with Christ seated as the Lord Almighty, to His immediate left the Mother of God and right John the Forerunner making the Deisis. Out further still on the first tier are the Archangels Mikhail (left) and Gabriel (right). The second tier with six Feast Days: The Annunciation, the Nativity, Crucifixion, Resurrection, Baptism, and Transfiguration. The third tier or prophets row displays the Mother of God enthroned with the infant Christ flanked by Sts. Feodosiy and Antoniy. Further still the Prophets Isaiah, Moses, Zachariah, David, Solomon, Ezekial, Elijah, and Aaron. At top the fourth tier with God the Father at center flanked by Adam and Eve and out further still Melcezidek and Jacob. In an excellent state of preservation retaining its original varnish coat. 21.5 inches x 22.25 inches (54.6 cm x 56.5 cm). Estimate $10,000-$15,000
