century. At center, the New Testament Trinity within a ring. On the left
the Mother of God, on the right John the Forerunner. On the outside corner
of the ring the symbols of the Four Evangelists. Also Seraphim, Cherubim,
Authorities, Dominions, Powers, Principalities, Angels and Archangels. The
borders heavily incised in Old Church Slavonic. Retains original varnish

A VERY FINE RUSSIAN ICON: The Resurrection, 19th century. Here Christ
descends into Hades to free the Old Testament righteous men and women held
in captivity. The borders with the Holy Apostle Niconorus and the Holy
Martyr Matrona. The overall style harkens back to icons of the 15th and
16th century. 12.5 inches x 10.5 inches (32 cm x 26.7 cm). Estimate

A SCARCE RUSSIAN ICON: The Miracle at Khonae, 18th century. Here the
priest Arkhippus bows before the Archangel Mikhail who disperses the
waters which had been diverted by certain pagans so as to destroy the
Church at Khonae. The inscription at top identifies the scene as "The
Image of the Miracle of the Archangel Mikhail". A less frequently
encountered subject. 9.5 inches x 7.75 inches (24 cm x 19.5 cm). Estimate
