A PAIR OF SOUTHWEST RUSSIAN ICONS, 19TH CENTURY. Comprising a large Russian icon of St. Panteleimon, the verso with a contemporary painting of the Ladder of Divine Ascent (St. John Climacus) after the original icon in St. Catherine's Monastery, Mt. Sinai. 28 inches x 18.5 inches (71 x 47 cm). Together with an icon of St. John the Baptist with interesting raised, carved and gilt gesso decorated borders, 21 inches x 15.5 inches (53.5 x 39.5 cm).
