A VERY FINE RUSSIAN SILVER-GILT AND SHADED CLOISONNÉ ENAMEL BOWL, YAKOV BORISOV, MOSCOW, 1896-1908. The bombe-sided bowl, resting on flared shaped feet set with cabochon garnet stones, decorated in a series of arched cartouches containing multi-color flowerheads against a cream ground and the overall olive green background set with scrolling filigree wires and bands of white opaque enamel beads. Hallmarked Moscow 1896-1908 and Cyrillic maker's mark Ya. B. and 84 silver standard. The base engraved with inscription in memory of a visit to St. Petersburg by Henry Hugh Hanna and his wife Anna, dated 1903. Width 5.25 inches (13.3 cm).

Henry Hugh Hanna (1848-1920) visited Russia in January 1903 as a member of the American Commission on International Exchange. Five years after his visit to Russia, Hanna was appointed Chairman of Commerce on International Exchange by President Roosevelt.
